How we look after personal information where you express an interest in Computers for Kids
Who this information is for
This information is for people individuals who have opted in to the Computers for Kids initiative on behalf of:
- local authorities (LAs)
- academy trusts (trusts)
- further education institutions
The Computers for Kids scheme is run by Mail Force and is not administered by the Department for Education (DfE).
However, DfE enables LAs, trusts, schools, colleges and further education institutions to express an interest in obtaining computing devices through the Computers for Kids scheme.
This notice explains how we use the information that you supply to us.
When you opt in to the Computers for Kids scheme, the following non personal information is shared by DfE with Computacenter (UK) Limited (“Computacenter”). Computacenter share this information with Mail Force:
- organisation details (name, address and Unique Registration Number, as published e.g. on Get Information About Schools)
- the number and types of device in which the organisation has expressed an interest
How we use your personal information
We collect your name and contact details (email address and telephone number) associated with your organisation and share it with Computacenter, who use the information to:
- co-ordinate allocation and delivery of devices to your organisation
The DfE is the data controller for the DfE’s processing of the personal information for the purposes of collecting and sharing with Computacenter your organisation’s expression of interest. The DfE is not the data controller (or otherwise responsible for) Computacenter’s processing of your personal information.
When we can use your personal information
To use your personal information we need to meet a condition in the data protection legislation. For this service, we use your personal information as part of our legitimate interests (and the legitimate interests of Computacenter and Mail Force) to collect and share your opt-in information with Computacenter to allow Computacenter to co-ordinate the allocation and delivery of devices to your organisation under the Computers for Kids scheme.
How long we hold personal information
Personal information is held by the DfE for up to 2 years.
Who we share your personal information with
We share your information with Computacenter (UK) Limited - so that they can co-ordinate allocation and administer the delivery of computing devices.
We will also share data if there is a legal requirement for us to share it.
Your individual rights
Under UK data protection legislation, you have various rights with respect to your personal information. In particular, you’re entitled to ask if we hold information relating to you and ask for a copy, by making a ‘subject access request’.
